Jerry Liu

Certifications:

  • University of Alberta – Bachelor of Kinesiology
  • Northern Alberta Institute of Technology – Personal Fitness Training Diploma

History:

Growing up, Jerry participated a variety of sports, however he found his true calling in martial arts, particularly Muay Thai. Over the years, Jerry has won 3 national Muay Thai titles and is currently competing in the professional leagues. This endeavour has further fueled his understanding of physical conditioning, discipline, and mental toughness. After sustaining an injury during training, Jerry became fascinated by the rehabilitation process and how strength training could be used to restore function and build resilience. It was this experience that not only helped Jerry regain his competitive edge but also inspired him to pursue a career in personal training. He now applies the same principles of resilience, strength, and corrective exercises that helped him in his Muay Thai career to help his clients achieve their own fitness and wellness goals.

Trainee Type:

Jerry works with clients across the fitness spectrum, including competitive athletes, post-rehabilitation clients, and individuals who are brand new to exercise. His specialties include strength training, mobility improvement, and injury prevention. Jerry is particularly passionate about helping those who are recovering from injuries, guiding them toward safe, sustainable fitness.

Training Philosophy:

Jerry believes that every person’s fitness journey is unique. He emphasizes the importance of meeting clients where they are, tailoring programs to their specific needs and goals. Whether someone is training for an athletic event or simply to improve daily movement, Jerry’s approach focuses on gradual progression, form mastery, and consistent effort. His motto is “Small steps lead to big changes.”

Favourite Exercise:

The trap bar deadlift. Jerry loves this exercise for its ability to build total body strength while being easier on the lower back compared to a traditional barbell deadlift.
