History:
For Shawn there’s no more rewarding feeling than helping clients reach and surpass their fitness goals and live a healthier lifestyle. His passion for health and fitness started at an early age, and he has been involved in athletics his whole life. Being overweight throughout childhood and adolescence inspired him to pursue a career in the health and fitness industry.
When he’s not training, Shawn enjoys time with his family and being a very passionate NFL and golf fan.
Trainee Type:
Shawn enjoys working with a very diverse clientele that includes elite athletes, general health and wellness, weight loss and rehabilitation. He has also had the opportunity to train some youth athletic teams.
Training Philosophy:
Shawn’s philosophy as a personal trainer goes well beyond showing up and counting reps. He believes in taking a whole body approach, concentrating on the mental, physical, and emotional aspects of training.
Making changes needs to be done slowly – small and steady wins long term. With some dedication and motivation, you can do this and have lots of fun along the way.
When Shawn designs a fitness program, it will match your goals and level of fitness. This is determined from a very thorough assessment and health history analysis. You will have greater success with a program that is designed specifically for you and your current needs state.
What you do in the gym is more important than how much you do. There needs to be a reason you’re doing certain exercises, and they need to be done a certain way to be effective. You don’t have to live in the gym 7 days a week in order to be successful. Exercise is meant to enhance your life, not consume it.
Keeping things simple is important; challenge yourself but there’s no need to do things that are going to put you at risk of injury. Train hard, train with a purpose, and more importantly train smart, and listen to your body.
Favourite Exercise:
Shawn’s favourite exercise is the Kettlebell Swing. It’s a great exercise to teach the hip hinge and lower body sequencing. The swing involves a large amount of muscle recruitment if done properly and is very metabolic. This is a great bang for your buck exercise.
Testimonial:
“I have trained with Shawn for 4 years, and he has been a fantastic advisor. He has been integral to my physical strength improvement over the years. He always changes up my workouts to keep me motivated and is very respectful of times when my health is compromised. I would highly recommend Shawn as a trainer.”
